Inspiring Walks
Yesterday I met up with some other members of Food Bloggers of Canada at the Covent Garden Market in downtown London. We strolled around taking photos (as we bloggers are wont to do), then settled in for a visit over cups of tea. It was pleasant to spend the morning in good company at a food lovers’ venue.

Here are just a few things that have caught my eye lately, so I’m sharing them in case you find them interesting too.
Do you ever wonder whether food names are fake or authentic?
I’ve long been concerned about the chemicals in beauty products, in particular hair dyes (not that that stops me). Here’s a cosmetic use for coffee to keep brunette tresses looking good. (I sent this to my daughters and their responses were less than enthusiastic.)
Food terms like ‘artisan,’ ‘farmhouse’ and ‘natural’ may appeal to our consumer instincts, but what do they mean? A lot of the time it depends on who’s using them. It’s interesting to see that Ireland has taken steps to clarify food terminology.
And finally, this whimsical, elegant almost unfathomably beautiful Cinderella cake from the incomparable Movita Beaucoup. I daren’t show this picture to my little ones, or they’ll be disillusioned to find out that Nana simply doesn’t have the skill to make one for them.

More than a month has gone by since my last weekend post, but I’ve only shared a few recipes since then. But they’re all worth checking out if you missed them the first time around! This rhubarb syrup-infused water is refreshing for the dog days of summer. Then there’s a new recipe for crisp (strawberry rhubarb coconut) and a different way to serve leftovers. I celebrated the renaming and redesign of the blog with The Messy Baker’s recipe for cherry and lemon macaroon meringues (sorry, I ate them all). And for Canada Day — or any day during strawberry season — how about an old-fashioned strawberry cream cake?

Getting together at the farmers market sounds fun. Love the photo of the bean poll…I think I would have voted for beans. Tender fresh green beans are always a treat.
I love green beans too, Karen, and they’re the only vegetable all my kids agree on! That said, I voted for the beets — just love them in salads.
I love beets too and started to vote for them. I like the beet as well as the greens when they are small.
