Welcome to Life, Inspired — The Weekend Review. This is the weekly column where I take a step back from the recipes so you can have a wider look at what’s been inspiring me, moving me, or just catching my fancy out there in the life beyond my kitchen.
My Morning Walks
There are so many interesting things to see on my walks this time of year, like this plant on the path through the woods along the river. The late fall/early winter weather just makes us look a little harder to see the beauty that’s around us, which makes it all the more rewarding.
Writing
I’ve been getting back into freelance writing, and had two assignments published last week. Food Bloggers of Canada ran a week-long series last week on holiday entertaining, and I contributed an article on the theme of the casual open house. Other articles in the series are: the cocktail party, the holiday sweets table, Christmas morning brunch, and the New Year’s Eve party. Do check them all out for recipe suggestions and tips for successful holiday entertaining (to me, success means that not only do your guests have a good time, but so do you!). Here’s a montage of some of the dishes highlighted in my article.
On Tuesday I published a post on the blog that was commissioned by Egg Farmers of Canada for their #BeEggsquisite holiday promotion of eggs. Writing this post brought back lots of memories of growing up on an egg farm. I also developed a new recipe for this post that showcases using eggs for the holidays. I’m delighted with how it turned out.
Baby Shower
I’m still working on some posts about recipes from the baby shower I hosted last weekend. Until then, here’s a little teaser … yes, I made marshmallows. And not just any marshmallows, but strawberry marshmallows, delicately pink in keeping with our “It’s A Girl!” theme.
Around the Web
I just have one thing to share from around the web this week, and that’s these delectable looking croissants aux amandes from another Canadian blog full of good food and lovely photography, Keep Calm and Eat On:
Weekly Recap
Last week I shared two recipes that you can enjoy for the holidays or all year round. The first is Maple Glazed Kicky Walnuts and the second is Ginger & Sour Cherry Puffs. Hope you enjoy them!

Brent
Love your new home away from home, Mar. Hard to believe but we all have lives away from our monitors and WP. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of yours. 🙂
Thank you, John. I find this weekend column gives me a chance to write more freely than my usual posts. I’m enjoying it; glad you are too!
