A Compendium of Ideas to Welcome the New Year!

In case you woke up this New Year’s Eve morning deciding at the last minute to have a few friends in this evening, or wanting just a quiet celebration on your own or à deux, here’s a few suggestions for some quick and easy nibbles and a cocktail to welcome the new year in style!

Some spiced nuts are always welcome.

If you’d like a little something sweet, why not serve this lemon posset in shot glasses with small coffee spoons?

And while I heartily recommend serving a good bubbly at the magical hour of midnight, before that you just might like to enjoy a cocktail like this sophisticated pomegranate cosmopolitan.

No matter how you choose to celebrate the new year, here’s wishing you all the best for 2013! It sounds like a lucky year, don’t you agree? Happy New Year!

  1. THese would be a hit at any party, Mar, let alone New
Year’s Eve, and you’ve presented each quite nicely here. That
pomegranate cosmopolitan is just begging to be sipped. Wishing you
and yours a very Happy New Year! Yes, 2013 will be a lucky year for
    us all.

    • Thank you, John! Just got back from our New Year’s dinner – no pomegranate Cosmo, but I enjoyed an excellent mojito! Hope you’re ringing in the new year in style!

  2. Ours was a dinner out in a local Italian restaurant here in
Vernon, BC.. It was lovely being served, but I would have given
anything to have been served some of the yummy dishes and that
Cosmo you have photographed here!! The lemon posset looks
fantastic.. I’ll have to come back here and try it in the New
Year!! Wishing you and yours a blessed 2013!! xx

    • Your dinner sounds lovely, Barb! I was spoiled this year, my New Year’s Eve dinner being at a Latin restaurant in Pass-A-Grille, Florida. It was lovely! Maybe next year I’ll be making the dishes I suggested in my post. Do try the posset – it’s as easy as anything to make and can be presented elegantly.
