Simple Pleasures • A Contrast in Beach Snacks

Our snacks on the beach are usually healthy and simple — there’s always fruit, often a dish of raw almonds and sometimes even vegetables.

As a case in point, this bowl of sweet Sun Sugar mini tomatoes and crisp snow peas. Doesn’t it look colourful, nutritious and maybe a little virtuous?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all fruit and veggies around here. Sometimes nothing will do like a good burger and fries. Forget the virtue, we want something fried once in a while too, and then a visit to the local chip wagon is in order.

And after that, it’s back to the healthy snacks. Believe me, there’s no sacrifice in that; there’s nothing like fresh fruit and vegetables grown locally (until we get another hankering for burgers).

    • Yes, there’s nothing like treating yourself! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with eating burgers and fries, as long as you keep your diet in balance – it’s the ‘too much of a good thing’ philosopy.

  1. If you have a burger and fries every day, they will lost their appeal. Besides, it’s not like there is anything wrong with your healthy alternatives, Mar, and I’d sure enjoy them. Still. a juicy hamburger does hit the spot, especially when it’s a rarity. Who am I telling? I can see it in your eyes — burger love. 🙂

    • I forgot to mention the fried onions that were on that burger — oh, swoon. Sure makes for a wonderful treat! The local chip wagon closes on Labour Day, so we might have to go back for a last taste of the season …

    • Go for it! I’m sure there’s a good chip & burger wagon near you …. Note, I’m assuming it’s not the tomatoes and peas that are making you swoon, but if I’m wrong, head to the local produce stand, fast!
