Simple Pleasures: Pause to Savour Colour In the Kitchen

Recently I made a soup that included leeks and Swiss chard. As I was about to add the colander of sliced leeks and chopped Swiss chard stems to the pot, I paused, struck by the interplay of colours — the green and white of the leeks, contrasting with the reds, yellows and variegated purples of the Swiss chard stems. And then I got my camera so I could capture this and share.

Taking in the beautiful colours and shapes of ingredients is part of the simple pleasure that is cooking. Do pause and take the time to look at your ingredients as art in the kitchen!

  1. I love chard stems and always use them. They are like little gems among the greens in your photo! Thanks for the reminder to pause and appreciate these moments.
