Life, Inspired ❦ The Weekend Review – January 11, 2015

Welcome to Life, Inspired — The Weekend Review. This is the weekly column where I take a step back from the recipes so you can have a wider look at what’s been inspiring me, moving me, or just catching my fancy out there in the life beyond my kitchen.

New Year, New Life

There was one event this past week that eclipsed everything else: the birth of my third granddaughter. When I said in last week’s post that her arrival was imminent, I didn’t realize that meant she would be here not much more than 12 hours later. But arrive she did, and once again my heart has expanded with the exponential power of love. 💗💗💗 How is it we fall so deeply, so fast? I’m so full of gratitude and joy.

My daughter and Miss Baby are both doing well. I stayed with them all week to help out, mostly by caring for, entertaining and being entertained by Baby’s two older sisters (who are delighted with the new addition). I’m grateful that I’m able to reprioritize my life when needed so I can attend to what is truly meaningful.

And now, I’m looking forward to the arrival of my next grandchild in February. Just loving this baby bonanza in my family!

Inspiration

Right now my car is sitting in the driveway with a flat tire, I have commitments all afternoon and I’m doing a freelance editing job on deadline. (Yeah, that deadline is tomorrow.) But you know what? It’s all good. So, this is going to be a mighty short post, although I think so far it’s my most joyful Life, Inspired column!

Today’s inspiration wasn’t found in nature, although perhaps indirectly. I made it to the market yesterday and stocked up on produce. My lunch just now was this colourful salad. Nutritious and vibrant, it’s fuel and inspiration all in one delicious plateful.

Have a great week, and I hope to be back to my regular schedule in the week ahead!

  1. Congratulations on the newest member of the family! What a blessing.

    That salad looks spectacular!

    Have a great afternoon Marlene.

    • Thank you so much, Redawna. I managed to get over to have a peek at her tonight, but I was good and didn’t wake her up! Glad you liked the salad; it was nice to have something so bright and cheery to eat on this cold day!

  2. this new arrival . .how wonderful and congratulations. and so sweet of you to help mommy and baby. .and for the salad it looks so delicious.. enjoy your weekend…..

  3. Congratulations!!! I just had my first grand daughter 3 months ago. Unfortunately they just had to move farther away from me, but I’ll just have to drive more!!! Love your salad. That’s my kind of meal! Happy New Year!

    • Congratulations to you on your granddaughter, Mimi! It’s too bad she’s not as close to you as before, but as you say, you can always drive there. Such a wonderful experience to grow into grandparenthood, with all its joys (and not the work of being a parent!). Happy New Year to you too!

  4. What a lovely colourful explosion on a plate! Good luck with the expanding brood. I have enough on my plate with two children and 5 nieces and nephews (and another on the way). The thought of another generation…..

    • I like the idea of a colourful explosion, as long as it’s on the plate and not the walls.

As for grandchildren, when the times comes, you’ll find that they bring all the joy of children, without the work! Mine are close by, so I can see them for short visits, although sometimes I spend more time with them. They’ve added such a special quality to my life! Maybe one of the keys is that my policy is not to be a full-time babysitter — I’m happy to help out, but I need time for my scintillating life too, lol.

  5. Congratulations, you lucky gal you!! How exciting to have a new baby girl to add to the growing fold of loved ones:D Lovely salad, fully of healthfulness, I need to stay on track with my nutrition so this will be of great help! Not sure our fresh greens are as lush as yours though! xx
