Shall we take a break from lentils and all that healthy eating to enjoy a cocktail on the beach? I don’t know about you, but I can only be virtuous for so long. This Blueberry Wave Gin Cocktail is just the reward for so much virtue!
Supplies being somewhat limited at the cottage, this drink is rather similar to the Lake Huron Breeze I made last week with strawberries and lime. I’m no mixologist, but I know what I like do like to mix together some of my favourite flavours. Blueberry, lemon and mint are quintessential summer flavours and as for the gin, well, I like that all year round! (But especially during the dog days of summer when a gin and tonic — or delicious variation thereof — is my favourite cocktail.)
How to Make the Blueberry Wave Gin Cocktail
To make your own blueberry wave gin cocktail, muddle up a small handful of blueberries with a few mint leaves and a teaspoon or so of sugar in a highball glass. Add a few ice cubes and squeeze a lemon wedge over. Add 1-1\2 or 2 ounces of gin, top with tonic water and stir. Garnish with a few blueberries and a mint sprig. I was going to add a lemon twist, too, but in my excitement to photograph taste the drink, I forgot.
I admit, mashed blueberries may not be the most attractive sight, but they certainly taste good! This pretty, pale lavender concoction was a refreshing accompaniment to the setting sun, and the perfect way to end an afternoon at the beach.
