Coffee News and a Tim Hortons Giveaway for London (Ontario, that is)

NOTE: This giveaway is now closed and a winner has been chosen. Thanks to everyone who entered!

Londoners (by which I mean those in Ontario, Canada, not across the pond in England) take their coffee very seriously. One indication of that is that Tim Hortons has been piloting their new new Dark Roast coffee in only one Canadian market, right here in London, since November 4.

Canadians are always proud of home-grown success stories, and there is a general fondness for Tim Hortons here. Years ago, I started a new job, and a co-worker asked if I wanted a “Timmies.” I just looked at her blankly, until she explained that meant a coffee from Tim Hortons. It didn’t take long until I fell under the spell, and was also referring to ‘double doubles’ and ‘regulars’ from “Tims.” I still remember exactly which Tim Hortons outlet I was at when I fell in love with the sour cream doughnut. But that’s another story. Today, we’re talking about coffee.

Tim Hortons new Dark Roast blend is made from 100 percent Arabica beans, and the company’s press release says it’s “roasted to bring out the full, rich flavour and aroma of a dark roast coffee, while ensuring a perfectly smooth finish.” I just ran out and bought a cup, and it’s pictured here with my usual double milk. As I put the finishing touches on this post I’m enjoying the deeper, richer flavour of it, compared to the regular blend. And, it’s not too strong for my taste, as some dark roast coffees can be. I’ll definitely order this again.

To help a lucky reader from the London area experience a cup of the new Dark Roast coffee, Tim Horton’s has offered me a $25 gift card as a giveaway. You need to live or work in or reasonably near London, Ontario (i.e., within roughly 100 km) to participate. You can use the card for any Tim Hortons product, but the purpose of the promotion is for you to try the new Dark Roast.

  1. Would love to try the dark roast coffee from Tim’s! I just became a coffee drinker a few months ago and am still experimenting! Thanks for the contest! Julie

  2. I like my coffee in its purest form – black – unembellished, straight up from the pot. Love the flavour of a dark roasted coffee bean!

  3. I like my Timmies decaf and black (actually I like it high octane with cream and sugar, but as you know that’s a dream from the past………….)

  4. Just liked your page and shared the post. I take my Timmie’s black with one sweetener, and now that I am recently retired, I can make it in my Keurig and look out at everyone clearing the snow off their cars! LOL
